Winter in Lake Tahoe is beautiful. The most popular activity is skiing, of course. The casinos add to the nightlife. Here are some of the nearby activities:
Skiing:
Northstar at Tahoe: About 15 minutes away, Northstar is a large ski resort with all the amenitites you would expect.
Diamond Peaks Ski Resort: A few miles away and in Incline, this is a great family friendly resort. It is smaller than Northstar and Heavenly, affordable, and a great place to introduce your family to skiing. It has beginner, intermediate and advanced runs. The ski shuttle stops within 100 feet of the Bear Foot Condo.
Heavenly Valley: A premier ski resort about 30 minutes away, Heavenly has it all, including a tram for those who just want to sightsee.
Squaw Valley: Site of the 1960 Winter Olympics, Squaw has a village with shops and restaurants, a tram, premier skiing, and an ice skating rink(take the tram up the mountain to the high camp to access). Squaw Valley is about a 35 minute drive from the Bear Foot Condo.
Casinos:
Hyatt Grand Lodge and Casino: Located 2 minutes away in Incline, this has a rustic lodge atmosphere that is a welcome change from the glitz of other casinos. It is the only casino in Incline and good for a couple of hours.
Crystal Bay: Located 8 minutes West of Incline at the California/Nevada border, Crystal Bay has the Nugget, the Cal/Neva, and the Biltmore casinos.
Stateline: For serious casino goers, drive 30 minutes East around Lake Tahoe to South Shore for bigger and grander casinos and more of them!
Other Activities:
Snowmobile Rentals: These can be rented up Hwy 431 above Incline Village or at other locations around Lake Tahoe.
Swimming/Workout: The Incline Village Recreation Center has an indoor pool and a gym, with child care available (extra charge). A family can have unlimitted use of the facility for $61 for a week.
Shopping: Drive 30 minutes East around Lake Tahoe for plenty of shops and boutiques in Stateline. Also fun is to visit the village at Squaw Valley for boutiques and restaurants.
Sightseeing: Drive around Lake Tahoe, take a tram ride at Heavenly or Squaw Valley, visit restaurants overlooking Lake Tahoe. The photos below are from the tram at Squaw Valley in early Winter.
Sledding/Snow Play: The youngest kids will like building a little snowman right in our fenced patio! For older kids, try sledding nearby. There is a snow park in Tahoe Vista, about 15 minutes away, or up Hwy 431 above Incline Village is a large sledding spot that also attracts many people. When the snow is deep, our beaches in Incline make a great spot to build a snowman.
